On Tuesday, March 20, 2007, Ronald Lee Waddell passed away at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania.
He was a 1961 graduate of South Lebanon High School, Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where he was the president of his class.
Ron was a retired United States Army Captain, helicopter pilot, historian, and research genealogist and a veteran of the Vietnam War. As an Army aviator, he has flown the UH-1 Assault Helicopter and CH-47 Heavy Cargo Helicopter. He has nearly 2,400 flight hours, of which nearly 1,500 were combat missions. He has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal for Valor with an additional 31 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious and Presidential Unit Citations, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Medal for Humanitarian Service from the Secretary of Defense for six air-sea rescues during Hurricane Eloise, two Good Conduct Medals and ten other service and campaign medals. He was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Michael J. Novosel M.O.H., Capital Chapter No. 542 and a life member of the Lebanon VFW Post 23, Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Captain Waddell was interred with full military honors at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania on March 28, 2007.
