The Lebanon County Korean War 50th Year Remembrance Memorial was dedicated Jun. 18, 2000 by the Korean War "Remembrance Committee" to honor the 2150 men and women from Lebanon County, Pennsylvania who served, and the fourteen who fell in the Korean War between Jun. 25, 1950 and Jul. 27, 1953, and stands in honored memory of all Korean War Veterans.

Among the committee members, and Korean War Veterans, are Corporal Thomas C. Shay of Mt. Gretna and Staff Sergeant Marlin C. Wolf Sr. of Lebanon.  Corporal Shay was a Browning Automatic Rifleman in the 1st Marines Division.  Army Staff Sergeant Wolf served in the 92nd Armored Field Artillery, known as the "Red Devils".

Mr. Shay and Mr. Wolf are both members of VFW Post 23 and are members of the Honor Guard at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County, PA.

Honored veteran Ernest P. Zserai of Jonestown was an Army Sergeant who was captured and held as a Prisoner Of War for about five days.

On May 29, 2002, about 150 veterans and guests attended a ceremony for thirty-eight of Pennsylvania's Korean War Veterans from sixteen counties who received commemorative pins noting the 50th anniversary of the war. The ceremony, led by Congressman George Gekas, Senator Arlen Specter and former Senator Bob Dole, took place at the Wormleysburg American Legion, Wormleysburg, PA, just across the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, PA.  Senator Specter also received a pin for serving as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force Special Investigation Unit during the Korean War.

FREEDOM  IS  NOT  FREE
THE  FORGOTTEN  WAR

IN MEMORY OF ALL KOREAN WAR VETERANS

They Answered Their Country's Call To Defend A People They Did Not Know. They Did Their Duty Fighting A Tenacious Enemy In Battle Under Some Of The Most Miserable Conditions Ever Faced By American Warriors.

When The Truce Came, The People They Went To Defend Were Still Free, But At A Terrible Cost - 54,246 Young Americans Dead, 8177 Missing And 103,284 Wounded.

Those Who Returned Quietly Faded Away And They And The War They Fought Were Soon Forgotten.

We Do Hope The Korean War Veterans Courage, Resolve And Sacrifice Will Always Be Remembered And "Not Forgotten".
