Swatara Water Trail

Go back in time and travel the land as our forefathers did by canoeing the "Swattie." You will see farms and bank barns, Union Canal locks, forested riparian buffers, the Appalachian Trail and abandoned Lebanon to Tremont railroad and bridges, limestone outcrops, and the only lava deposits in the state.

Canoe rentals are available at the Union Canal Canoe Rentals on Black’s Bridge Road; if interested call 717-838-9580. The Swatara Creek Water Trail is a 60 mile segment of the Swatara Creek from Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, through Lebanon County, to the PA Fish and Boat Commission’s access in Middletown, Dauphin County. There are many public access points in Lebanon County: Swatara State Park, Lickdale Camp Grounds, Swatara Creek Family Restaurant in Jonestown, and the Swatara Creek Watershed Association Waterworks Access, north of Annville. Maps of the Swatara Creek Water Trail are available at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center & Fairgrounds Visitor’s Kiosk. For more information visit:
